Solar Only Feature: Standard solar fountains do not store solar power; they operate only when the panel is placed in direct sunlight. The panel is connected to the pump via a cord but they do not have a battery pack. Without direct sunlight, the fountain will no longer run until after the sun comes out again.
Solar on Demand Feature: Upgrade this solar fountain to Solar on Demand. Able to use solar power and battery power, on sun mode, the pump will be powered by solar energy while using part of the energy to charge the batteries. By pushing the On/Off button to turn on the battery mode, you can power the fountain at night for up to 4 hours if fully charged. When the battery power is depleted, the system will automatically switch to be powered by the solar panel, and the solar pump will start up again when the sun comes out. This option also comes with LED lights which turn automatically at night. The LED lighting may be conveniently placed in the basin of this fountain for lighting effect.
The battery life is usually 12-18 months. If you notice that your battery power is less efficient, you may try and boost charge it. To do that, leave your fountain off for 2-3 sunny days to allow maximum charge to the battery. If the boost charge does not help the battery than you will need to replace it.
